Rep. Kris Crawford of Florence issued a statement Wednesday emphasizing his strong support of Sen. Hugh Leatherman of Florence and that he has no intentions of opposing Leatherman in a future race for the S.C. Senate. Crawford sent out a press release to state his strong support of Leatherman in response to a “recent internet blog report that erroneously reported that I intend to run for the State Senate against Sen. Hugh Leatherman.”
In a phone interview from the State House with the Morning News, Crawford said the report had created such a buzz there that he felt the need to issue the statment. He said that he and Leatherman are working closely on a number of key issues and the report could not be further from the truth. Crawford’s statement went on to say: “ ... during Sen. Leatherman’s last campaign I appeared in a TV commercial for him. I have donated money to his campagin fund, and I have most recently been a host for a reception that was held for Sen. Leatherman in Florence. “Sen. Leatherman and I are friends, and we have assembled a great legislative team for Florence County and the Pee Dee. “We are working together closelyon several important issues that affect our region, and I am proud to be his colleague. “Not only will I not run for the Senate, I encourage Sen. Leatherman to run for re-election and wish to be the first to publicly endorse him.”

The real fight in the Senate will be for Elliott's and Drummond's seate. Tracy Edge is said to to stockpiling money and favors for the race against Elliott. He is popular and loaded too. Mike Pitts is said to be looking at Drummond's seat. Look for the race against Elliott to be nasty. It is the only way Rod Shealy can can protect Elliott. With Elliott losing his mind Edge will cream him in any debate. Elliott will run and hide. Drummond and Elliott both should not run again. They are out of it.
Drummond is not running again, look for a big name football coach to come out in Greenwood for the Democratic nomination, pushing the issue of school vouchers hard.
Elliot will run again, and win, because he is a friend of all of those RINO's in Horry County. I am looking forward to seeing Tracy Edge and his school choice buddies get beat in a Senate race in Horry County... Horry County is home of several Palmetto's Finest Schools, begging the question, why would anyone vote for someone who opposes those schools?
Then why ha Edge continued to win if he is hurt by school choice. Elliott almost got beat by a nobody last time. Plus since Horry's schools are good and half the population is over 50 they don't really care about school issues. They do care about taxes and roads which are issues Edge will cream Elliott on. Like I said if school choice is such a bad deal for Edge, then why is he still popular at home.
Dick Elliott is the weakest and least respected Senator in South Carolina. There is no way he wins against Tracy Edge in that seat.
Just because you are for school choice does not mean you are against public schools. Just the same old rhetoric from the educrats. Question: what positive thing has Dick ever done?
Elliott has a whole lot of Jack Lindsay in him and that can be a really good thing. And that magic is a powerful thing. Remember that Senate district 28 covers a lot of ground and if I remember correctly moves through Dillon, Marion and Marlboro Counties. The base of Gentleman Jack's district. I hate to admit this but reapportionment is about self preservation but who doesn't already know that.
Dick drew his district and may or may not have held up the plan to ensure that his district would elect him until he wanted to retire. The commenter who said school choice won't fly is correct. It won't. Uncle Dick does alot for the people of his district and for the people who comment about his age. Remember the people of South Carolina elected Strom Thurmond at 94 in 1992. We take great pride in reelecting those public servants with experience.
I will take Dick Elliot 3 to 1 in 2008 over Tracy Edge. I think that the real residents of Horry County are sick of living in a microcosm of Disneyworld and Tracy Edge represents that microscosm. He is a huckster for that circus side show that myrtle beach has become. Oh Burroughs and Chapin what will you bring us next...the wonderful world of pixy stix.
Then why does Tracy Edge continue to get elected if Horry id so tired of him. Could it be that he actually works hard and delivers on budget items and other conservative issues? Yes! On the other hand Elliott never,ever does anything. He has so little credibility that lobbyist call him "swing" because he lies and is unreliable to his colleagues.
Elliott is useless to the people of Horry. Edge gets stuff funded on the House side and the Senate takes it all out cause Elliott has no clout to keep anything in. Elliott promised a solution to the coastal insurance problem and no the Senate has done nothing. Elliott stood in the way of DOT reform until the full page add by the "greenies" shamed him. The greenies are even supporting Edge over Elliott. Face it Like Edge's employer or not he keeps getting elected by bigger margins. Elliott is a liberal in a district that voted 63% for Sanford. and guess who Sanford supports, The Edge. nuff said
SOMEONE please answer the question: what has Dick Elliott ever done that was good?
What is clear on this issue, is that there is a flood of the Joshua Gross' and Michael Green's posting for their boy Tracy Edge (who is the poster child, emphasis on child, for sending public dollars to private schools). Edge does not continue to win in Horry County, his district covers a very small part of the largest county in the state. He probably has little name rec outside of his district in that County. Plus, since this district also runs into Dillon, it takes in many more Democrats.
Also, Elliott has been in the game a long time. His name-- not Burroughs and Chapin-- but his name is all over North Myrtle Beach and down Kings Highway on real estate signs. People know "Dick" is THEIR Senator. He may be getting old, but let Tracy Edge go to a Sun City-type retirement community and show his gelled head, and Guido looks, and he will lose to Elliott (See McMaster/Hollings or Close/Thurmond). If Edge was smart, which he has proven time and time again that he is not, he would wait until Elliott does retire, because it will be soon.
And as far as the question goes about "What has Dick Elliott done?" He has personally recruited jobs for the areas that need it most in Horry County, he provides jobs for hundreds of people through his hotels and rentals, and he makes his rounds in his district. Elliott is an old guy who can relate to much of his district.
ELLIOTT CANT WIN AGAIN
Lets get this straight. Elliott won in 04 but lost Horry County big time to a joke candidate. Those "Sun City" types would not vote for Dick cause he comes across like a country fried porkchop. However these areas including the Sun City types vote overwhelmingly for Tracy Edge. So if Elliott related so well to retirees then why don't they vote for him. Answer is they vote for Republicans and candidates who don't sound like HE HAW soundtracks.
Tracy Edge's didtrict was much broader covering western Horry until lines were redrawn. As for Dick winning because of Kings highway name recognition thats baloney. Everyone in NMB knows how tricky Dicky made his money. His name Id hurts. Just look at how badly he lost Horry and the coast in particular.Edge's family is probably the most respected family name in the area.
Dick has never created jobs for anything except his business. And even there it is a bunch of illegals cleaning condos.
To the anon above you are so wrong about Elliotts strength and his ability to relate. Remember these retirees in Horry DID NOT vote for Hollings or Thurmond. Close won Horry at that time. They don't want an old uneducated sounding Demo like Elliott to serve them. Edge wins against Elliott with hair gel or not. He's Republican, right on issues, and wins the Sun City types big time. And yeah, he wins on school choice, property rights, tax cuts ect and other Club for Growth type issues. Finally Edge will out campaign Elliott and certainly moves over all of Horry far more than Elliott does now. Thats a reason why Elliotts out of touch.

Is a job not a job? Does it matter if he has created a job for McDonalds or for his own company? The Senators company has well over a thousand employees. Although, most of those jobs are seasonal. As for the fact that they are illegal's, 99% of those who clean the condos are either white or black citizens of the United States. You should stop by their office during the summer on a Saturday if you wish to prove me wrong. You should do your research before you make ignorant accusations.
Second of all, since when has the "Sun City Type" of voter changed the outcome of the election? There are a lot more of those "He Haw" types of voters in his district than snow birds.
You will not find a more caring person than Senator Elliott. If you call the Senators office today, you will receive a call from him personally within 24 hours. I don't know of another Senator that gives everyone his personal cell phone number, do you? I don't call that out of touch.
He may not get the "Sun City" type of voters, but he will get all of those "HE HAW" voters,and sorry to burst your bubble, but its the majority. I would recommend a move if those "he haw" people bother you. I'm a republican, but Elliott gets my vote.
