Contributor Bozo Knows: I Know What I Was Feeling, What Was I Thinking?

The What Was I Thinking Sympathy Award

Hey Hey Hey! I guess this is the beginning of what I like to affectionately refer to as the "What was I thinking" Award. That's not the real title, just a suggestion so if anybody has a suggestion as to what to call the segment officially, please feel free to let me know. Well, with out further adieu, the first recipient is ... (add your own drum roll, you know you're doing it anyway) Mrs. Jenny Sanford! Congratulations Mrs. First Lady and don't forget your bouquet of cotton candy and Blue Ribbon.

It seems that we had a small problem this week when we (ok, just Mrs. Sanford) came out and officially "unofficially" endorsed my favorite circus midget Mike Campbell in his race for Lt. Governor while the incumbent Lt. Governor Andre Bauer was still in the run-off and campaigning his heart out. Now we had all seen the Lt. Governor come back from being down in a race before (see last election cycle) to win . Follow me Mrs. Sanford, that's why they call him the "comeback kid". Now it seems it was about as premature to call Lt. Governor Bauer out as buying tickets to a Gubernatorial Debate, one I'm very certain the Governor may attend... ok I didn't even believe that. Just a piece of advice for the future if you would allow me some lattitude; your name is not Hillary Clinton, Eleanor Roosevelt nor any first lady entrusted with policy or decision making in any capacity. While I'm certain you are a very sweet, lovely lady, please let your husband screw up the race on his own. He has enough trouble with it on his own, he doesn't need you making prognostications on issues outside your arena. Coming out in support of Mr. Campbell might not have been the smartest move, especially looking back on it now, since he is now out of the race. How do you expect the Governor to work with Andre now?

It was much better when you were seen and not heard. I have one question, is the Sanford '06 crew going to jump on the dre' train now that he's the nominee? I'm sure Andre would like to thank you for your support if you would give it; well on second thought, maybe not. Until the next screw up. Keep it real, I'm watching you ---------- Bozo Knows

How embarrassed she must be now! Did you see what Mark Sanford said in the Press Release yesterday?

“First, on behalf of me, Jenny, and our four boys, we would like to congratulate Andre Bauer for winning the Lieutenant Governor’s runoff election this evening. He ran a courageous campaign under very difficult personal circumstances, and I look forward to campaigning with him this fall and serving together for another four years."

Mark, #1 Andre will not be campaigning with you and #2. Andre hasn't won the whole thing yet. Again, we see Sanford's arrogance at it's best.

Yea, he won the whole thing. Lets be real

"How do you expect the Governor to work with Andre now?"

I guess you don't follow South Carolina government very closely. The governor and lt. governor don't work together. There's no reason to, because the lt. governor has no duties. He doesn't do anything. He doesn't implement policy, or anything even close to it.

It's funny that people keep bringing this up. Over the last four years, Sanford increased the responsibilities of the lt. gov. office more than any governor in history by giving control of the Office on Aging (one of Andre's main campaign points now). How did Andre repay him? By working behind the scenes to block income tax cuts and restructuring.

So why should Sanford give a damn about working with Andre?

The idea of letting the Lt. Governor be the head on the Council on Aging, this credit needs to be given to Glenn Reese, not Mark Sanford.
Actually, Sanford said that he didn’t want the Council on Aging and threatened to send it over to DSS and let them handle it. My Father, Glenn Reese, proposed an amendment to let the Lt. Gov have the responsibility over the Council on Aging and it passed unanimously. Sanford signed it because he had to go along with it. All of his macho tough “restructure government” caught up with him and he had to back it up.

Bozo,

Are you kidding me? Did you really just write that the "entire legislature" is "controlled by the Lt. Gov.?" 8th grade middle school government students know better than that, surely someone with a law degree does as well.

The Lt. Gov. is the cermonial head of the Senate. He has no substantive role in legislation whatsoever. His claim that he "blocked" all those tax increases is ridiculous - all he did was rule them out of order since they were against the Senate rules. The Lt. Governor does not advance a platform, does not introduce legislation, and almost never votes. The Senate is run almost exclusively by Senators McConnell, Leatherman and Peeler. Andre Bauer has no influence whatsover.

Michael,

Your father introduced the amendment after a deal had already been cut between the governor, Andre and several members of the Senate. It involved a tit-for-tat that Andre never delivered on.

The amendment was merely the formal execution of something that had already taken place.

And it certainly wasn't "restructuring." If anything, it was destructuring. Sanford wasn't happy about it, because it would have made more sense to move the office to DSS. But they cut a deal, so he did it, then Andre and the senators backed out. I wonder why Sanford is so skeptical about cutting deals with members of the legislature?

Hey Bozo - I wouldn't advocate punishing you for your commentary. However, for being in the legal profession ... how about a good tar-and-feathering for that?!?

Just kidding ...

The Last Anonymous,
I appreciate the thoughts and discussion, and you did it without attacking. It looks like we are going to have to arm wrestle to see who wins to determine who is right! ...... Watch out, I'm a dirty arm wrestler.

I've seen Mr. Reese. Small guy. I think you can take him an arm wrestling match.
